What a great comment to get as I come off a break from it and jump back in-- Draft inbound. There's a lot to unpack here. Firstly, I love Pi. Maybe watch it again today, it's been awhile. I was tripping balls the first time I saw it and was not prepared, which was awesome! Never mind that fellows other films having some similar impact, Pi is still my favorite of his. The music makes it what it is, too. My favorite music math is VBM. :D If you know Pi and don't know about that stuff, have fun!!! (Vortex-Based Mathematics, which I should also watch again.) I peeked at your channel, as I do anyone who subscribes to me...and was left wondering if the name 'Chas Balun' makes you giddy? :D I used to order stuff from him that was incredibly hard to find. I was part of a USENET project to source the samples of Skinny Puppy and some others, way, way back. My lady of the time managed a cool video place, so we already had some bomb local access. I managed a record store, so I had bomb access...but nobody had what Chas had. Or maybe I'm not making any sense, but google him if so. RiP, Chas. SUPER nice dude, too. Always included extras in the packages. Now, as for the sample...I could make heads nor tails from most of what I heard from the 'vocals' stem use in making this, but THAT one popped right out. One of the joys here is just hearing the sound sliced into stems, working with each individually to make video stems to play with in tandem. I'm unnaturally good at this game without dividing the sound, but technology now lets me make the game FAR easier. The reason I found that one fun to highlight (and forget about being there when I used the video differently to make what you see...oops) was because there was discussion of it around it. You'd know the source better than I, but the words make me giggle. :) Some were sure that was what they said, some argued something else-- and it was solved for me the first time I heard that stem. That said, most of the 'vocals' stems that come out of the Autechre tracks are EMPTY. Just a long line of a file.... Looking forward to what else might pop up, but I am in no way trying to bust Autechre for any samples. :D They can use ANYTHING without bothering me-- well, if they sampled me, that would feel weird. But OTHERWISE, heh, yeah. All good. It makes me wonder if anyone is actually worried about this new ability of technology to unravel their works of old. Be careful what you sample! (And then mangle it right!)

@@59thSurvivor-of-VHS :D Words are useful, I think. I use most of my words at reddit, but I'm also on here looking for my people, as I am not likely to find many where I'm living. I appreciate the vibes, I do. Enjoy work. And I didn't even get to BoC, who I've been into since the first album as well. They might be great videos to attempt as well. I just listened to Draft to get my head around it visually and half of it already inspired stuff.

I'm a bit envious if you've only gone a year into Autechre-- I wish I could go back and do it all again. In a way, I am...but only for some of the albums. Thanks for the comment. One of my primary goals in making these is to make the music more accessible via visual. I myself didn't like Confield nearly as much as I do now.... There's also a video on my channel that I made specifically for use with the livesets, too. No sound, just visuals...and strangely, they can work with any liveset, though sometimes I have to slow them down to make the end of the longer ones, my bad, it was a long time ago. I found it invaluable to get into the livesets with a focus. I've always admired their presentation of music in darkness live, but...this can be cool too. Having that focus helps the ears parse the sounds, as not all ears have the same ability with things like Autechre. It's quite the subject to me. Maybe I'll expound upon what I mean when I start streaming soon. Come hang out and we'll talk about it. :)

Thanks, but it's the music that makes those 8 minutes keep walking, the visuals would be so much less without it. Well, I mean, it's audio-based in derivation and I am attempting no puns...but YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. I was feeling bad recently for watching your posts pop up and already being engaged deeply. Tutorials, editing, tutorials, editing, tutorials, find new plug-ins, learn new plug-ins, tutorials..... I'm honored you find the time to watch mine. Lately I tend to go walk around when rendering, do other things not on this machine. I really need to build a new one. Happy Humpday.

Also, something a bit different on deck now. I think you might like it, but you might not know it yet. We'll see. Whole album that I think is even out of print. I want to flex my skills further before I attempt the hardest Autechre stuff, so I figured I'd dig deeper into my collection for some rare gems and see how RUclips treats it. I find myself wondering if you ever have it kick stuff back for copyright? or is it a vastly encompassing thing now and we rarely need to worry about it? I just want to pay homage and build a portfolio while imagining new techniques to try, but would be a shame not to share the fun results.

It took longer than most of the others, so happy you like it. I watched them all today finally and was dismayed what the YT compression did to them, even though I thought I did things 'smarter' this time. Having fun right now with generative animations. :) It's a lot like sound in that I can almost hear what I am seeing. It's UNLIKE sound in a lot of ways too, but effects are effects are effects.... Endless potential once the basics are understood. I almost streamed what I'm doing, but it takes a lot of waiting and I'm doing laundry today. :)

I'm envious, but also prepared if I ever venture out in that way again. I mean, I'm living somewhere that everyone I knew and loved moved away from. A place where all the worst bits of my life happened and I don't even want to know the people anymore. :/ So...I don't come across recreational goods much anymore, nor do I try to...but there was a time when I'd eat it by the handfuls. You may notice this present in my visuals. :D It never *really* goes away...the psychonaut thing. One you've traveled, you've traveled. I traveled extensively in the 80s and 90s. More than words can contain. Now I just burn. This bowl's for you, sir.

I also find that yelling at wires makes them behave best, the bastards. Keeps them lazing about more diligently. You think this one is insane? You think this one has FLASHING? Wait for the 10gb one uploading. My favorites in this round come later, but I had a blast with most of them. Most. I just want my drive space back now.

Oh yeah and I had it on the PS5 in my small studio with lights off on a big ass old TV So it really changed the whole aspect of being under the desk from just before that was 242 circling under land. Lol!! That's why I smiled so big without seeing it. I knew it was you. :)

@@BroodXindustrial Along, long time ago, I also had many cables to deal with, and usually in a small space. Cable Soup, I called it. The cats were familiar with it in ways I never could be. One day I went out to get a patch bay and was surprised at the price I found with the local music retailer. I was very excited to have this new power at my fingertips, primarily to swap out my various multi-effects processors in racks. There were two things grossly wrong with it: 1) it was somehow a half-inch too big for any standard rack, making it officially the dumbest sale I ever fell for...and why it was not displayed in a rack. Last money that store ever got from me. 2) Even if I just wanted to set it on top of a rack and roll with it...it had the hardest jacks I've ever tried to use, like they were just a hair too small, making me feel like I'd break cords sooner than later. NOPE. I have never insisted upon taking a return so hard. Paid a little more and got an upgrade chip instead, for a rare keyboard I had back then, Peavey DPM2. Now I have a Push 2 and the cables have zipties and the cats all died. :(

@@BroodXindustrial Fun fact, 242 were my original inspiration to make music, no lie. I read an interview where they said they had a desire and the money to buy the equipment, so they dived in and learned as they went-- and you can hear it in their catalog, plainly. It really stuck with me and I went out and bought a drum machine...and that was just the 80s. The Decade I Discovered Debt. Heh. I wonder if it would let me do the last 242 album as visuals!?!?! Oh, how fun that would be. I still listen to it every single year multiple times. About to start offering commissions to keep me busy, as I am addicted to learning more in this direction. I found LFOs in DaVinci Resolve, basically. No stopping me now. I should stream and show what I mean. Beast is right. Totally crowling.

Like Autechre...right? :D I work complexity from the finer end up to the grander view, always trying to leave something that changes at the edge of perception such that we never finish exactly where we started, like a journey. Sometimes I do loop back to where I started in some ways, but never all. I let it be what it wants to be, but with guiding principles like that one. Subtle manipulation helps make sense of the wild manipulations as well. Provides a binding force between chaotic ones. Wait til you see Confield. lol it's kicking my ass, but loving it.

Honestly, not as I imagined it either, but what I arrived at anyway. It started out filled with color, but it demanded something more in line with the others. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for saying so. :)

I haven't had a flashback in many years. Used to get them, as I lost weight. Did a paper in college about LSD and discovered it stores in the fat cells, then can be released later, this being what we call a flashback. Def trippy when it happens, but sadly, my fat cells are boring nowadays. :/ I have not seen this stuff on a bigger screen, need to integrate the one I have back into the studio. This monitor is something like 40"? It feels tremendous enough, most of the time. :) I remember 17" CRTs.... Freakin' candyland of technologies now. Thanks for watching and the words of support. Cinematic sonic charisma

I split the audio into what are called stems...drums, bass, vocals (heh), other, instrumental, is what I get using software. I then create an audio waveform for it with other software, use many effects and other editing on that to make each cool unto itself, while thinking of the other parts already done as I go. I did this whole album and used this method for each. Autechre is wild enough that this seems the best solution. I do usually make my own animations and suit them to music usually. Really, I can do it several ways now. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you, I was myself blown away how perfectly it came out. I made the animations years and years ago, maybe my third attempt in making clips. I've used them a few times, but never so perfectly as in this. Probably the last time I'll use them. Cheers.

Working on Chiastic Slide now, but will wait to release when happy with the whole thing. Should I survive, I'll be doing as much of their catalog as I can get to. It's wonderful practice.
